So here it goes. My first areavoices post.
As a journalist, writing about myself is a foreign feeling. I spend my days happily telling other people’s stories — not my own. Nevertheless, here I am writing about my own personal thoughts and interests.
My blog will focus on ways you can easily save money by making your own soap, lotion, shampoo, etc. Really anything that you may use on a day-to-day basis. This is something I enjoy experimenting with in my own life, and I hope to pass my findings along to you, the readers.
However, for this particular blog post, I would solely like to introduce myself.
My name is Kristin, and I am 24 years old. I currently live in Luverne with my husband, Jesse, and Nora, our four-legged daughter. Yes, she is dog. A beautiful golden retriever.
We moved here a few months ago from Hillsboro, N.D., a cute little town exactly halfway between Fargo and Grand Forks, N.D., where I worked at the Hillsboro Banner, a weekly newspaper where I managed the ads, did some page layout and reported on local stories.
Then the hubby received a job at the Daily Globe. I followed suit by landing a job in the advertising department. However, when a position opened up in the newsroom I jumped at the chance to get back to what I originally set out to do: report.
You see, I went to school at Minnesota State University, Moorhead, and studied journalism. I always enjoyed the idea of telling someone else’s story. I didn’t study journalism because I loved to write.
As I like to tell people: I am not a writer, I am I reporter. To be honest, I don’t even really like to write. But I love sharing the stories and ideas of others — and writing, to me, is the best way to do that.
I look forward to not only reporting on the community but becoming a member of it. So if you see me wandering the streets of Worthington looking for my next big news story, feel free to introduce yourself. I’d love to hear your story.
